Codes galore! (O2 related)

So my disco has had a cel for a while now, paired with really bad fuel economy. I had suspected the O2's, but didn't want to drop money on replacements without scanning the computer.
Well I got my hands on roverdude's OBDII scanner and ran the codes. I got six, as follows:

0130 "02 sensor circuit malfunction (B1S1)"

1138 x2 "Oxygen Sensor Engine Rich" (explains the bad FE!)

0133 x2 "Oxygen Sensor Slow Response (B1S1)"

1178 "Maximum Positive AMFR Correction Fault" (no idea what this means)

I cleared the codes, and now all I get is 1138, but I've probably put less than 30 miles on the truck since then. Judging by the overlapping codes, I'd be safe in assuming that the precat O2 on bank 1 is faulty, correct?

I've no money to spend on frivlous repairs, so let's get this right! ;)

Yes anytime an O2 sensor goes your ECM reverts to running horribly rich. If you have been running like that for a while your top end is probably gnarly looking. Not sure what your mileage is but if you are over 100k replace all 4. In the least replace both bank 1 sensors. If your are super broke just replace the 1 sensor.

Yeah I've probably put at least 2k on her since the cel popped up. The truck has a little over 130k. :(

If I could swing two sensors, is it better to do both bank 1 sensors or better to replace both precat sensors, since they're in charge of metering?
And to clean the top end what should I do? Seafoam?

Merry Christmas by the way! :)

bump.

Thoughts anybody? Also, ideas on a cheap place to source some O2's?

lipadj46 12-26-2009 07:18 PM

The cheapest O2 sensors are the generic type but you need to know what wires are what and splice on the connector.

Rovin4life 12-26-2009 07:47 PM

and no guarantee of running decent. buy them from atlantic british or the dealer. They guarantee the parts actually work correctly. Trust me, Seen a few guys put the cheap ones in complain of issues and until you get the geniune in the car wont be right. Oxygen sensors and MAF sensors you dont wont to screw around with. Spend the money for the right part and see the right performance. Its a crapshoot with others.

dont do any cleaning of the intake with fresh O2 sensors installed.
this can potentially damage them.
Also on using the universal O2 sensors they have special connectors to allow the wires to have an airway from the sensor to the pug, if you crimp the wires or solder the ends then the airway will then be damaged and the O2 might not work

Someone mentioned in a posting last night that they'd gotten 4 bosch's from a chain autoparts place (Autozone, I *think*) for $300, which I gather is damned good.

Baylink 12-27-2009 12:25 PM

In fact, Autozone lists the Bosch's:

15630 post-cat $68
15175 pre-cat $77

So, $145 a side.

That's specced for my '00; I *believe* they're the same for 99-03, but you should check before spending money.
