Coil Pack Relocation Upon Purchase
Test drove a 2000 Discovery 2 days ago with 113K miles. All electronics work and runs quiet but stalling due to misfire. Spoke with the owner if I can use my borescope to check cylinders if coolant present. He agreed. Upon plug removal, some wire connectors was left on the plugs and broken.

After knowing that the cylinders were clean of coolant, I purchased the truck for cheap. Ask the owner if I can tune up the disco on his driveway and he agreed. Run to Auto Zone and purchased new set of plugs and installed the coil pack relocation kit. It took me less than 30 mins this time since it has no SAI. Drove the car home and so far no misfires and amazed that the truck is strong and quiet with no ticking. Happy Ending. lol https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...c968bfaa1a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...9ae307bc3b.jpg Got this baby home and will start cleaning it. Cheers! |

$200 for some metal plates seems steep but i suppose a lot of time and effort went into making the kit.

As far as I know, you still have to extend the coil wires yourself. |
Doesn't come with plug wires -- just has an extension for the coil itself.

That includes longer plug wires too.

Gerry (nice score on the truck by the way) did a hell of a job on this! It all started here (and see his signature)... > https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...project-82610/ |

$200...for just a bracket.
No thanks Coil Packs on ebay I use are $53.00 Custom Kingsborne Wires for this kit is $45.00 New Spark Plugs $49.00 Relocation kit $208.00 TOTAL: $354.00 For entire DIY tuneup weather you are a novice or experienced mechanic. I used to go to dealer then local shops and if you try asking its around 800 to 1600.00. The cheaper ones does not even include replacing the coil packs. I know, some would really dig the coil packs out and thats fine with them, this is just an alternative. Cheers |
Gerry,
Just wanted to let you know your videos are a great resource and I enjoyed watching them. Thanks for taking the time to make them available to us. |

I already had new stock length wires and got new coils. I have the engine out now rebuilding it. And will be putting the heads on after the block is back in. So the coil packs are ok where they are. After I have everything done, I may consider a set of plug wires, extend coil wiring myself, and make a bracket. |

looks like ya have some valve cover gasket work, remember to check the color of the coolant color, easy way to see if someone has dropped in some headgasket fix, how much did ya get it for?

I think it's a great project and probably a quality product, but $208 is a bit steep. Maybe you can 3d print the bracket or something to lower the cost and still make your margin? I would be more likely to buy it if it was closer to the $100 mark.

I own a machine shop with fabricating ability which includes milling, turning, water jet, anodizing, powder coating and various other processes: I am anxious to see this part 3D printed.
We manufacture many of our own products that are marketed worldwide under various trade names and are always looking to help other small businesses with their ideas and products. |
Looks like the coil pack is now obstructing access to some of the spark plugs... or do you just remove the coil pack when replacing wires and plugs on passenger side of the block?
|
The relocation kit is a great idea for those that don't know how to remove the intake manifold or for those that just don't want to fool with it.
However for me personally I have no issues removing the intake manifold and getting to the coils or wires that way on SAI or non SAI equipped D2. I also like having the stock wires being available at 95% of the auto part stores out there so "if" I was in a pinch I could quickly grab a cheap set to get me on the road again vs having custom length longer wires that you'd have to try and source. |
