Default Compatible engine list

From everybody's experience, what engines can be used to replace the stock 4.0 and 4.6 without too much trouble? Include diesel, too, please.

4.0 or 4.6 are the only two choices for little trouble. The rest spend on your definition of trouble

If you have SAI in yours, make sure to get a 4.0 or 4.6 that is the same configuration as yours.

Depending where you live and the local rules, the 2.5 TD5 is magic. You might need to buy the engine ECU also and change the trans bell housing, it also depends whether you have cruise control.

There've been some LS swaps. One particularly well documented here in the forum by ShadeTree. None of them are compatible though. Any swap takes major modification and fabrication.

I'm personally debating on a small block Dodge swap because I have a 318 and my Disco is dead in the water.
