Coolant Leak, Head Gaskets and ARP Stud Questions
After many unsuccessful months of trying to hunt down the smell of escaping antifreeze……I now have a dripping leak. The coolant is dripping off the transmission. I still cannot find the source. I am assuming it is one of the head gaskets in back, running down the back of block, onto the transmission and then onto the ground. But before I pull the trigger on yanking the heads, any other suggestions?
Also, does anyone have the ARP stud part numbers? I looked on their website/catalog and they do not have a Land Rover kit. TIA.

Stop driving it with a leak, before it turns into more than just a leak.
Don't be scared of TTY bolts, they work very well. The studs will probably cost as much as the complete gasket set with the bolts and plenum gasket ($160+S&H).
Pull the plenum off so you can see what is going on at the back of the intake, chances are the bolts are loose and blew the valley pan gasket. You can do the valley pan and end seals (valve covers too while you are in it) for under $50 in parts. A complete head gasket set with bolts is only $150. The Bosch engine plenum gasket is another $10.

I am not driving it. Driving the D1 whose paint job looks like something out of Mad Max. I have the kit to pressurize the cooling system. I take it up to 25 psi. It bleeds down to 22 psi over 30 minutes and then stabilizes. This is why I have not been able to find the leak. I took it for a short local drive today to get it up to temperature and when I got back it was dripping again. Same place, off the trans onto the square cross beam and onto the ground. It has never overheated. The only codes I have ever got were 0441 evap and the 0150 O2 sensor.
With almost 70K on a 4.6L D2, the possibility of it being the valley pan gasket, I am tempted to take it all the way down to the heads and do the head gaskets at the same time.........
