coolant level
 

I had a hose clamp at the radiator not holding (I would notice a drop in coolant level monthly). When I would refill to cold level and drive it the overflow tube would burp coolant out when I shut it off. Really freaked me out. I was just wondering if any of you have to run your coolant level lower than indicated. Is this normal or am I missing something? I have no other warning signs (waterfall sounds or the like). Thanx in advance for any advice.

Have you fixed the leak?
Have you bled the cooling system?

leak fixed and system was purged. I should have said that. It just seems odd that it wants to run lower fluid level.

Just make sure it is full when cold and then I wouldnt worry about it as long as it is not leaking.

Sounds like it's not bled all the way. When you bleed the system you need to lift the expansion tank as high as you can, bleed the top hose but also let it run with the cap off (when the engine is cool) and raised. Or if it is nearly bled but not completely just keep opening filling it as it lowers and after a few days it will be full and the level will stop dropping. I could not get mine bled all the way, that was because I had my cylinder heads off (if you just drop the bottom hose of the radiator you still will have a fair amount off coolant in your engine). I had to add a couple quarts a day for a couple days for it to be completely full.

My rover is retarted with coolant. Everytime I fill it to the "full" mark when it is cool, it leaks it down the transmisson bell housing (still don't know where it is coming from). Once it gets about 1 inch below the mark it stops and all is normal.

Sounds like maybe a head gasket or valley pan gasket leak that gets blocked up when the system is pressurized (just a theory not sure if it is possible). Have you ever had it pressure tested or when you open the expansion tank does it let pressure out? Mine did a similar thing until I did an induction cleaning and that cleared out the gunk that was blocking the small leak and became a big leak. Since you have coolant leaking out the back of your engine though there is some sort of leak somewhere and not from a hose.

If there were any questions, I would have some one do a coolant pressure test to verify a leak.
If no leak, rebleed the system and keep the level of your coolant right up to the cap when stone cold, if you burp coolant, either the cap is bad, the t/sat is bad or you are leaking exhaust into the coolant system.
Never run the coolant level low, this will cause you to such air into the system when hot.

This is why I'm scared of the seafoam.

I have the same issue. I noticed it below the line and filled it up, then I noticed coolant leaking out. It came out of the overflow.
