Cruise control non functional... where to start?

Just noticed (never tried in the last 2 years I've owned it lol!) that the cruise control doesn't work. At first I figured I just didn't know how to work it, so I pulled over, broke out the manual and followed steps and nothin. The green light comes on the dash when you turn it on, but the steering wheel controls dont seem to make it do anything... I'm in D+H doesn't seem to want to do it at any speed. All the other steering wheel controls work for the radio, so I don't think its a wire/button issue. Where should I start to look? Fuses are all a-o-k but to be honest, I don't really know how the system even works. ECU, BCU, its own thing? Any vac hoses, wires, cables or sensors to look at first? '00 Disco

Locate the module under the hood. It's situated just behind the coolant reservoir on the firewall. I would first check to make sure all the vacuum hoses are in acceptable condition

I had the same problem. Was just a cracked vacuum line. Replace and see. I had some extra fuel line, I think it was 1/4" not sure.

I havn't heard (yet) of anyone with a cruise control problem that WASN'T a cracked/lose/broken hose.. $2 at the parts store and you'll be snoozing while you drive in no time!

My line was cracked. I was able to cut it out and reuse the one. It is on my list to replace.

There may be a vacuum release switch on the brake pedal as Discovery I.

On Discovery I there is a motor that generates vacuum to pull in the diaphragm.

One more test--

Pull the hose from the diaphragm which pulls open the throttle.

Pull the throttle to wide open via the diaphragm assy.
Put your finger on where the hose went in to make a seal.

Let the throttle go.
Should hold some pressure.

Only set the cruise control at the speed you are comfortable hitting the ditch at.
zzzzzzzzzzz. Free up a part of brain that allows you to text while driving...LOL
I need to test mine one of these days.
Colorado dry air...hoses get brittle.

Just curious, which hose did you find cracked? I have an issue I'm trying sort out w/ my cc. I can set it but it doesn't hold, it will gradually start to decelerate slowly (lose speed). Sound like a cracked hose?

Mine didnt work when I bought the DII. The fuse was blown and the hose coming off the bottom of the diaphram was cracked right before it connects to the CC diaphram. I think it is the age of the hoses coupled with the sharp bends in the routing of them causing these to fail. My cruise control works now.
