D2 steering gear box replacement - any experience?

Greetings fellow addicts...

I have a healthy leak associated with my steering gear box on my '03 D2. The replacement appears to be relatively straightforward according to the manual. Do any of you have any experience with this replacement? The manual seems to call for a pin/bolt to insert into the box to keep gears aligned. This is the part I don't fully understand and would love to have more info on. It seems places like roverlandparts don't ship them with any such pin/bolt in place.

Thanks for the help!
Adam

Dido-

I am looking for one now too. I think my steering pump is on its last leg. Not leaking (much) but this weekend it just started getting really hard to steer at low speeds. It is coming and going too.

Let me know what you find out.

I bought one from Paul Grant for $75 + shipping. Used, but should be good :) I will let you know once it gets here and I put it in. As much as I am leaking right now, I am thinking of changing the Rover's name to BP.

Hey, what happened with that Defender??

How is Paul Grant? I might just wait a week or two as Andy (the guy who just bought the '04 down the street from me) is picking up a '03 salvaged truck for us to have a parts truck. I will probably just pull all the good steering parts off that and swap them for mine. Whats funny is the parts truck is the same year/color/options as mine so its perfect for me. And he has a place to store it inside.

I think I have decided to just keep the D2 for now. More and more D110 and 90's are becoming available almost by the day and it looks like more and more are being imported now too. I will probably just wait a year or two.

whatever you do dont mess up the turns. get the steering wheel equal. meaning equal turns lock to lock. And be careful you don't turn the steering wheel all the way without the box hooked up. you can damage the steering wheel rotary coupler.

Thanks for the tips, any others? How about a write-up you may know of?

Thanks UP - that was great. I think the big difference is that our pump's are on the other side of the truck and much easier to get to everything then yours.

I was sure I would figure it out once I got under there but this will help. That and I guess I need to buy a 40mm socket.

Thanks a bunch man-
