Daytime running lights

Ok - I've got an '03 series 2 and would like to somehow have working daytime running lights. Is that possible ?

Is the wiring already there or do I need to run wiring ? I'm fairly good at electrical work, but supervised by my husband. He's a mechanic by trade, but health issues prevent him from working on my truck.

I'm just looking for a little direction as to what might need to be done.

I appreciate any help and suggestions.

Thanks !

So driving with regular or parking lamps on is not for you? Which bulbs do you want on while driving in day time? On the early D2 and D1 there is a second bulb inside th head lamp reflector area, comes on with what we used to call parking lamps, about a #194 bulb, not too bight for day light you might not see them too far away. Do you want the "dipped" beam or low beam of the main head light on?

Page 91 of 152 in the circuits manual of the RAVE has the schematic, and the DRL relay. Looks like you would need to move some wires.

If you are wanting your head lights on while driving, you will need another relay and must have the dealer turn on that feature thru the computer which takes a special computer like the Test Book, Hawkeye or something with the Rover software in it.

DRL are an option when programming the BCU:

I can confirm this works on both 1999-2002 and 2003-2004. On the older D2 it requires that a special resistor, behind the left side headlight be installed, if it's not already there. On the newer style, there isn't a provision for the resistor in that location, so I'm not sure how it is supposed to work. I've enabled it on my 2003 before, and it just works, but I'm not sure if it works at lowered output like it's supposed to. On my 1999, I had the resister already there, so it worked just fine. SOME 1999-2002 only have a jumper instead of the resistor.

See this TSB for the older cars: http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uploa...8609nasf_1.pdf

Why not just turn you lights on whenever you drive it? Reduces hits by something like 10% (going on memory here).
Daylight headlights are mandatory here in Canada, and my rover lights come on when it's in gear (although it's not the full lights you get when they are just "on"). Never understood why we legislated it that way, just seems more sensible to just have them on rather than the strange halfway that we've got.
And well worth it if it means not having idiots run into you 10% less often.

I have to do that in my vehicles that are silver, they blend into the pavement so well you'ld swear there was a stealth mode switch.....

This thread started me thinking about what's under the bonnet of my 2000 D2, so I looked for the DRL relay and think I may have found it. Can anyone with experience in such matters help me identify what I'm seeing? Is it a DRL relay?

Thanks

That's the resistor. The relays should be under the dash, little relays, in the fuse box. They are very likely already there. In that case you'd only need to have the BCU programmed to enable drl.
