Default Dead Disco

Disco I w/ 155k. Driving the Disco tonight in the snow and she died on me. She needs a new distributor and new alternator. You could hear the bearing in the alternator rocking around. Those jobs were to be for Sunday. Anyway, tonight I drove for about miles and right when I slowed down to turn the corner and take the last hill, she died. Tried to start and wouldn't start. Made a desperation call to Mike b/c it wouldn't even shift to neutral (Thanks again Mike). I put a charger on her and it still won't turn over. I am pretty sure the alternator is my culprit, but not sure. I put the charger at 10 amp and am going to charge it over night. Any ideas what else this could be. Any tips on the alternator removal and installation? What tools are needed for this job? Thanks for any help.

Charge the battery, replace the alternator and distributor see what happens then get back to us.

Thanks Mike, sorry again for the hassle last night. Any tips on switching out the alt/distributor? I have never done either so even knowing a tip or two or which tools to use would help out tremendously. Thanks again, I was up the proverbial creek for a while last night!

Changing the alt is straight forward and a easy 30 min job.
The distribitor is a whole other story.

Thanks Spike, I am going to take that advice to heart and have an experienced mechanic help on the distributor. Thanks for the advice, I may be looking for more in a few hours if things go south!
