DI OR DII? Help
 

I will be buying a discovery very soon, however I much prefer the looks of the DII and keep running across them for under 4600$ I hear DI's have less electronics and should be more reliable.

I DO plan on offroading this vehicle and lifting it. is a 1999-2001 DII not have the oil pump problems and such? What does the DII have in electronics that the DI doesn't

There are several D1 vs DII threads on here you can search for. DII has electronic traction control.

From what I understand, the transmission as well!

get a 98 or 99 D1 (less mileage) or a 99 D2 and stick a diff lock in it.

If you plan on off roading, get any DI (the later the better, as mentioned by Ed) or a 99-mid01 DII. The DI comes stock with CDL, and the Early DII's can easily have CDL added. 2004 had CDL stock, but they are much more expensive at the moment.

Stay away from late01-03 if you plan to off road, they do not have CDL and it cannot be added as easily as there is no "nipple" to connect to.

As for electronics, the DII has a few more bells and whistles, but not enough to really make anyone want one over a DI IMO. Both are great trucks, and like you, I like the looks of a DII a bit more. As long as you have that trusty CDL, you will be happy with either.

The guys here have kept me from almost literally shooting my 2004 Disco to death with my M14 (in a controlled environment, of course).

I thought the DIIs felt more comfortable and luxurious, but that was what was important to me at the time.

If you do decide to shoot it can i have your head lights??? ill provide ammo and beer:)

Haha, I doubt they'd come out unscathed. I'd set up a few recorders, and use the video of the Disco getting PWNed to generate traffic to some lead gen site... I'd figure out a way to make more off that sucker than I would selling it, if it comes to that.

i mean before you perforate it.....
