Did my mechanic kill my engine?

Do you think this shop will now post the pics of the oil pan on Facebook?

Nice detective work. That was me who commented on the pic in response to the sarcastic comment. It wasn't until an entire week after that pic that they finished the work. The owner just called. They are going to work with me & want to make this right. They should have re-diagnosed before the work since some time had passed between the original & the work. They will look for a better priced engine. Or I can find one & they will work with me on labor. Any sources on a solid engine at a decent price? Would it be a smart move to go with the local LR dealer & get a certified re-mfg? $2500.00 is their price.

For the noobs and all other viewers at home, this is one more reason to NEVER take your Land Rover to any shop other than an independent LR specialist.
Not a "foreign car" shop, NOT a dealer either... At least after the warrantee is over.
If you can't do it yourself or with your buddies, ALWAYS take your truck to someone who does Land Rovers ONLY every day of the week every day of the year and nothing else.
Not to some foreign car shop with a guy who has "worked on" Rovers before.
Edit add: I speak this from experience, I've been told three times that I need a new engine for 8 to 10k. I did get a factory replacement block at 38k when the oil pump failed so while I may not have actually needed a new engine I got one for free so I took it. :-D Otherwise they were just trying to make a boat payment.

^^^ Was thinking the same thing.
As far as new engines, If you love the truck that much, I would carefully consider a Cannibal V8, GPR, or AB short block. A long block is a little more, but will guarantee that everything is matched up right from the supplier. All your shop would have to do is plug it in, provided you trust them to do that.
These all have top hat liners and are thoroughly reconditioned. Cannibal offers a 2 year warranty and GPR I believe offers a 3 year warranty.
It seems they are trying to work with you and are somewhat willing to admit a mistake. No shop is perfect.

/\/\ If a new engine is the way to go, like he said, I've heard good things about Cannibal V8. Now, I do not have any experience with them, but there are several threads on here with reviews and write-ups about them. You can do a search and probably read all day about it.
Glad you got the refund and hopefully they will do you right on getting your truck out of there.

I have a Turner Short Block in and I highly recommend an upgrade on your camshaft if you do go with a new motor. There is much more power, and is a noticeable improvement. My only regret is I had already redecked my cylinder heads so I did not go with a long block and the gas flowed headers from Turner. When I need a head gasket I am getting mine gas flowed.

I don't post much more but after reading this I just had to say I'm sorry that this happened to you.
The shop screwed up a simple job and probably just crossed there fingers it would work. These motors are sensitive if you beat them the wrong way.
I've spent the last year working in a professional shop and honestly I've seen this kind of crap get pulled.
Best of luck.
