DIESELS? FUEL CONSUMPTION?

I am seriously thinking of acquiring another Series 1 from the Land of the Rising Sun, but this time with a diesel engine. I know there are a few variants and that they are in the 2.5 litre range, but little else.

Questions-
1) What are the diesel engine spec.d for the Series 1 and how do I know from the badging/VIN?
2) What sort of fuel consumption can I expect from these engines?

Not sure on how to tell, but I think you should be looking at around 30MPG. We don't get them here, and I would love to have one, but don't know much about them. I have a 6.6 in my chevy and it will pull the balls off of anything you hook it to.

The new 4.5L Duramax is coming soon, that'll be a nice choice for the Rover driveline (with some enhancements) that's what I plan on using if I build a custom Ibex.

Yeah, what the next generation Defender SHOULD be, but won't... I'm still horrified to think about a Defender with 4 wheel independant suspension.

My friends dad has one in the UK, he says it's really slow. But not sure about the torque?
