Dim headlight
 

Hi all,
I'm having a problem with the LH headlight on my 2000 D2. The light is very dim, I think its running the "city light" but not the low beam. High beam works just fine. I replaced the bulb, same problem. I checked the fuse, its good. When I replaced the bulb the low beam came on when I wiggled the wiring connector.

I'll assume the problem is in the harness or the connector. The connector seems ok, I didn't notice any corrosion or burnt terminals. Does anyone know of any common problem areas or repairs?

That would be fuse 9 (lamps have separate fuses). It is pin 8 (blue pink) in the attached connector. May be able to adjust connector or clean.

Should consider tracking down a bad ground.

As usual, Mike is right. The three black wires in the connector are each a separate ground for each bulb and filamnet, and they go to the same bolt very close by - follow cable.

Thanks for the advice. I found 2 sets of grounds behind the lamp, in front of the air filter. They looked clean and were tight. I loosened them and cleaned the contacts. I also pulled apart the connector at the light and cleaned the connections better than I did the first time. Afer I put everything back together it seems to work properly. However, it worked at first when I replaced the bulb. I should know if its repaired properly when I drive it at night. Last time the low beam would come on and off while I was driving. I'll let you guys know.

I had a similar problem, I had some corroded wiring as well as a disintegrating connector. Bought a new connector, wired it in, problem solved. Costs like $5 at auto parts store.
