Disco 2 Bottle Jack not working

I was finishing up my 3 Amigos repair on my 2003 D2 and getting ready to bleed the brakes... took my bottle jack from the engine compartment and to my surprise the jack doesn't work! (it doesn't want to raise up)

According to the Owner's manual, all you need to do is turn the thing at the bottom clockwise until it's tight and then start pumping

I did that and the jack would not come up. Is there anything else I should be doing?

According to some posts I read, there is a seal? that needs to be replaced and you need to fill up the jack with fluid?

As always any help is appreciated

Sincerely

Al

This has happened plenty, just buy another one at harbor freight or something.

They have those at Harbor Freight?

No, Harbor Freight and Sears have much better bottle jacks for less money.

1 Attachment(s)
Here is the bottle jack I bought from Sears

Attachment 14065

USD 17.00 2-ton capacity and fits perfectly inside the battery cover in the engine compartment. The factory tools fit the jack and work it well.

Notes:
1. However, the jack is short and does NOT raise high enough to get to the D2's jack mount points. :(
2. You will need two 2x4 pieces of wood to make it work and stow them in the back of the vehicle.

Regards

Al

Is it tall enough to reach the diffs? If so you're good.

I found a Husky jack at Home Depot a few years back that also does the trick. And fits in the stock bottle jack location.
