Disco farwell fiesta!!!

Facts

Land Rover; Discovery; 2003; SE II
87k miles. Been sitting in the drive way because it keeps crapping out. Again, only 87k miles.

Ford F-250 7.3 international diesel. 4 wheel drive AND 2 wheel option. 1997 model.
Almost half of a million miles.
Monthly routine service and that's it. No break downs.
I have pulled hundreds of cattle with it, hay bales, dirt, aggregate, heavy equipment. It has been a work horse and 100% reliable.

As for the disco? Well, I bought it used 4 months ago. It had 83k miles on it at the time. 2 weeks after a bought it, the check engine light started blinking and the engine began to bog down. Actually, the list of problems is longer that it is worth typing here.
I've been reading through a enumerable amount of posts on here and I have come to a conclusion the Land Rover/Range rover product is crap...absolutely CRAP.
So, tomorrow we are going to have a fiesta out on the ranch... beer, tannerite, a POS DISCO, and plenty of guns and ammo. Oh, BBQ as well. Anyone who lives close enough here in south Texas that wants to come, bring yourselves on over. Hurry though-it is not going to take much to blow a heap of aluminum and plastic to hell.

cybercop 09-03-2015 07:35 PM

3 pounds of tannerite, duct taped together

Video please!

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-03-2015 07:36 PM

Absolutely!!

R0VERGUY 09-03-2015 08:08 PM

I'm in Floresville, Tx and would love to witness this send off if you are close by. :) Do you think I can bring some tools and pick it apart some first, Or maybe I can buy the whole thing off you if you want to let it go cheap. I know the guns, beer, and big booms sounds like a lot of fun but beer and ammo money is also fun :) Either way maybe I can bring my AR out and have some fun with you.

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-03-2015 08:13 PM

C'mon! Damn it man! You can have all of this Euro crap for free! But, I still want to blow it up. True LR/RR lovers must have an absolute fetish with performing mechanical repairs! Ya'll are a different kind of crazy, for sure!

Redduc 09-03-2015 08:19 PM

If you don't post video of this I'll be crushed. Sorry it was such a dud for you. Our 04 with 87k on it has been totally reliable.

Deal! PM me the where and when and I'll bring a few 100 rounds of .223 and a few cases of beer. I want personal memories of this disco going sky high:D

Makes me think of Uncle Tupelo lyric:

"Liquor and Guns, the sign says quite plain,
Somehow life goes on in a place so insane."

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-03-2015 08:40 PM

Then afterwards, there are the wild hogs.

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-03-2015 08:45 PM

Wee... That's some damn good music!

cappedup 09-03-2015 09:00 PM

Discos seem to require a certain mind set to own. It seems you have a slightly different mind set to that.

Good luck with the the BBQ.

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-03-2015 09:38 PM

I want tough, reliable, off road vehicles that are not full of gimmicky gadgets of plastic and aluminum. Discos are not this. Discos are weak, frail, unreliable. The mindset that you speak of is one that accepts the weak, the frail, the unreliable. Two things are going to happen within the next 24 hours...I am either going to proceed with my redneck fest OR, I am going to tare that damn disco down and build it back up to where it will not be weak, it will not be frail. If the supposed mindset of a disco owner is one that accepts a lack of quality and a lack of mechanical integrity, then YES SIR-I indeed do not possess that mindset because such things are absolutely unacceptable and to have a mindset that DOES accept such things-well, I'll end this reply lightly by saying that it is unbecoming-to say the very least.

R0VERGUY 09-03-2015 09:44 PM

I think that we all have dreams of blowing our disco's up and moving on with our lives. I just have too much money dumped into mine by this point to do that. If there is ever a time to do it it's before you start rebuilding, because once you start there is no stopping. :) I'm here to try and help if you go that route, and I'll hold the flash light while you light the fuse if you go that direction.

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-03-2015 10:03 PM

Godbless Texas and us Texans. We are what remains of the American spirit; building it bigger, better, stronger...or, blowing it up when all else fails. I'll give the disco a good old college try before I blow her up. I just have a major issue when it comes to weakness. BBQ, beer, tannerrite, hogs, are still game. BTW- I have some property and its terrain will challenge any rover out there. Bring em out. I have plenty of truck to tow em when they break down.

Blow it up then. Just don't make such a song and dance about it.

I will do as I will just you will do as you will, hoss. Ya know what to do if you don't like my posts. But please, do not refrain from replying any further because I always welcome opposing opinions to my own. Hell, I gotta give you credit! Your initial opposing comment kicked in some 'can do' in me about my Disco heap and pulled me out of a mind set that is more so for a puss. Here's a cold one for ya!

I'm going to make time to make it out there. I've been looking for a Rover buddy close by. As for the truck, you can fix that sucker for sure if you want to. If the T-Case is the problem then it's really not a big deal. The 2003 discovery is the only year discovery 2 that doesn't have CDL (Center Diff Lock)on it. Everyone with an '03 usually swaps out there T-Case for one with CDL anyway. Being able to lock the CDL is a major off-road advantage in these trucks and really makes a difference in what they can do.
So worse comes to worse you have to buy a used T-Case for $200 and do the upgrade you are going to want anyway.

OffroadFrance 09-04-2015 05:39 PM

It seems like a lot of BS from someone who's gonna quit anyways :D. Those who wanna do it just get on and do it without all the BS, vids or photos. I didn't hear too many sobs from LR coming over the airwaves as they sell more new trucks now than they have ever sold :D. Just blow the LR to f--- who cares anyways. :D

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-04-2015 06:13 PM

Well got damn frenchy! I had a change of heart, ok? Excuse a fella for chimping out! lol...thanks again for you input yesterday, sir. Much appreciated!

Common misconception. He's actually an Englishman living in France.

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-04-2015 07:54 PM

****sigh**** oh.

Best4x4 09-05-2015 11:07 AM

Just don't shoot the A-Pillar trim haha......

Honestly I have owned a lot of vehicles in my life and the most unreliable and way more $$$$ to own/operate were my 05 Rubicon/05 Unlimited Wranglers!!!! From constantly needing brake calipers like every 5K, to rear main leaks, axle seals, injector #3 getting hot and causing rough idle/starts, and just piss poor quality on interior parts like the turn signal stocks, HVAC control head, and wiring.

I'll take a Land Rover to a Jeep any day. I prefer RRC/D1/D90's but I do like a nice P38 or D2 as well. To bad you wouldn't swap me a parts D1 for your D2 blow up extravaganza lol

DiscoRover007 09-05-2015 12:01 PM

Land Rovers are as reliable as you want them to be. But I will agree they are not the best engineered vehicles.

However with the D2 its seems over the years the LR community has provided a solid method to keep these things relatively "reliable".

Also you also have to accept the fact that they leak. To me I don't give a sht if it leaks as long as it's not coolant and its not leaking like a faucet.

LRDISCONEWBIE777 09-05-2015 12:21 PM

Today's line of Jeep products is junk. Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep-all junk. When it comes to rating on a POS scale, their products are a 10. Their QC is horrible. To be honest-most vehicles from year 2000 onward are built for disposing.
