That's interesting, Savannah, that's exactly what my old radiator looked like...

ok, found the leak, but I have NO idea what I'm looking at.

Pressure tester was a no-go... the one at the parts store didn't have any adapter that worked for a disco... so I just ran the engine until coolant pressurized and found the leak.

Unfortunately I couldn't get a good picture of the leak itself, but I did get a picture of the spot with the engine off. (not a good picture, but hopefully it does the trick).

The leak is exactly like the spray from a water pistol, going forward, horizontally, like it's coming out from between two parts that are in contact more or less horizontally, not one bolted on to the front of the other. The pinhole stream comes out at the bright seam just below the red arrow pointing downward.

So after searching around I can't figure out exactly this is ... hopefully someone can identify this spot. I noted the power steering hose to help pinpoint the location. Thanks.

Update: k-seal fixed it. Like magic. Scary magic.

I read (and re-read, and re-read them again) all the pros and cons I could find, and took the well-considered leap. I figure with a nearly 10 year-old radiator I'm not far off needing a replacement anyway, and I'll flush and fill in a few days to get rid of the surplus kseal. And I'm buying a BAFX ELM-327 tomorrow so I can keep an eye on the temperature, and I'll probably buy a new t-stat to keep on the shelf just in case.

Coolant leak of a different sort
 

I was parking at work this morning and suddenly billows of white smoke were coming from under the hood. I popped the hood to see coolant spewing in a stream from a crazy location. I checked and it was all antifreeze, no oil. I am inculding pics. Can anyone look at these and tell me why cooant would stream from the seam?

That is the throttle body heater plate. Common leak point on a disco. You will need to by another one from AB or similar.

BTW, just a suggestion, but you should start a new thread when you have a problem like this instead of appending your problem at the bottom of an old thread. You'll be more likely to have somone read a new thread.

Put cardboard down.
Park the rover over the cardboard.
note the antifreeze and trace the drops.

Best when engine is just turned off.

Once coolant starts to leak from a Disco, you will chase the leak all around the engine bay until you've replaced every hose, fitting and component in the cooling system. I started with the water pump, moved to the radiator, then to the octopus hose from the t-stat to the water pump, throttle body heater and now as of last night I had a pin-hole leak from the hose to the throttle body heater. I was able to shorten the hose enough to get rid of the leak, but I know better than to leave it like that. If it leaks once, it will leak again and sooner rather than later. I'll go by a new length of hose this weekend.

Well, I didn't make it to the weekend. I'll be out in the driveway.:cool:

You can bypass the throttle body heater....
