Disco II driveshaft rebuild
Let me get this straight...
1.Disco II front drive shafts are bad because they did not come with greasable u-joints. If those stock u-joints fail they will ruin my tranny costing me thousands of dollars? 2. If I drop the front drive shaft and replace the u-joints with greasable ones I'm okay?...or do I need to replace the hole drive shaft? 3. Anybody got a link to a site that offers the greasable u-joints? |
You are correct, but have you ever rebuilt a double cardon drive shaft, if not, might want to find a shop that will for around $200.
Parts numbers, Percision 344 u-joint and a Percision 617 centering ball kit. |
For the parts go to rockauto.com.

Here's a good write up on it.

Can't thank you guys enough for all the help...I will start getting the parts and calling shops today--CG
|
most driveline shops will carry the parts. Call and get a quote for the re-build and balance. By the time you pay shipping for supplying your own parts, it will be the same as the mark up from the shop.

They have the zerk in the end cap which makes the DC easier to lube. x2 on greasing at every oil change and make sure you see new grease coming out from around all 4 seals. |
Antichrist-where did you get your screen name, "The Gods Must be Crazy?"
|
Sorta. See my sig.
Friends attached the moniker to my Lightweight when the state of VT saw fit to give me that tag number right after the release of "The Gods Must be Crazy" in the US. |
AHHH! I noticed your sig but didnt pay attention to the tag number.
