Disco Lift- Bigger Tires- BEFORE the Lift?
I will be doing the Old Man 2" lift on my 03 Disco. I am replacing my 18" wheels with 16" wheels as well.
I just got the wheels through Ebay and was wondering, can I take the 18's off and buy my new tries and mount these bad boys, BEFORE the lift?
Will they fit? The only reason I am thinking about this, is because it will be another couple of months before I do the lift, for financial reasons and would love to have bigger tires in the mean time.
Disco Mike? Anyone?
Thanks Guys.

What are you going to be using the truck for, what size tire are you thinking about going to?
To answer your question, buy the klift and install it first so you don't cut up your new side walls and damage some fender trim.
Where are you buying your lift from, I have a good site for decent prices if you need it?

Mike
Good question. What size tires can I get away with? I am open to reccomendations. I would prefer as big as possible without problems, and of course they have to fit with the 2" lift.
It will be 16 inch wheels. I'll take your advice and hold off until the lift is done.
You reccomended a shop in the Bay Area, when we talked on the phone a couple of weeks ago, but I lost my notes.

245/75/16' are safe and won't hurt your mileage. I run 265/75/16's, 32 " tires and really like the look and performance, but I lost nearly 2 MPG and a lot of low eng torque. Then I added gears to bring back the performance, then lockers and finally H.D. axles, $4500 later.

if you know you will be doing the lift, just wait and do it all at once. go with the 265/75/16 tires so you dont get the "i shoulda went with the bigger tires" feeling you might get with the 245/75s. the truck will still be very drivable with that size.

Mike, so did the 4:11 gears correct the speedo calibration too with the 32" tires? I used a tire calculator and it said the Disco speedo would be showing appox ~8mph under at 65 mph with 32" tires. I.E if it shows 65 you'd actually be doing about 73 mph. I know when I had Mustangs you could buy a different speedo drive gear to go in the trans to correct for the gears, but same size wheels/tire diameter. Is there some sort of easy speedo re-cal item like this for the Disco?

Hmm. I am not worried about the mileage, its already horrendous. But low end torque is another story, I do mountain driving often in the winter.
Do you have any pics of your truck?

My speedo is 3 MPH short at 70 MPH
My odometer is 11% short, showing 100 miles when it has traveled 111 miles.
No you can't recalibrate the Disco speedo.
