Discovery 2 Premium gas penalty vs Discovery I

I actually think a Discovery I is a better over all Discovery to own.. It is cheaper to buy now too. WABCO ABS can be reset with a piece of wire. ABS codes can be read out from the check engine light. And - One does not have to put PREMIUM gas into it. So, how can a DISCOVERY 2 claim to "Own the Jungle" if one has to put premium gasoline into it - in Africa or somewhere?? And, the Discovery 2 will ping itself to death with pre-detonation and ruin the head gaskets.. I just put $100 into my Discovery II. And, that really cheesed me off. I really try NOT to drive it. For this very reason. See photos. Yeah, I did fill it up. Right to the top. It was empty, low fuel light was on. But, $100?? for a fill up? On a vehicle I paid $2,500 for? We are lucky we are not accessed a personal carbon footprint tax. We would be selling these fast.. Makes me want my Saab 93 back. It got 30 MPG mostly. Not 15. Pizzed off about the gas cost. Well, it was my first fill up since July 1. So, I should not care. I just don't drive it. I hate spending money on gas. And, enabling the enemies of America by buying foreign oil |
Pretty sure the D2 can run regular gas. Just the BS fancy car marketing line says to run premium. That said I run premium because I don't want the bad karma
|
probably should let your gas tank get down to below 2 gallons or you will have to replace your fuel pump next....
ill give you $500 for your truck since you seem to hate it so much. |

The manual says you can run 87 octane no problem, but possibly with reduced performance and fuel economy.
The knock sensors will detect detonation and the ECU will compensate by retarding the timing well before even the best trained ear can hear it. |
Holy ****e man! Your gas is $4.23??? It would cost me $85ish to fill up from that empty. Which I don't do. Because I like my fuel pump. And I always run premium in my DII.
And I'll one up hilltopper. I'll give you $600. |
I now run 87 octane in my 99 D2 and have never had an issue. I've driven it from Arkansas to Oregon and back to Arkansas about 2,000 miles each way. Using regular the whole way there and premium the whole way back I didn't see any noticeable power difference and there was maybe a 1mpg increase using premium, not enough fuel savings for the cost difference in my book. However the difference in regular and premium is night and day in my 04, so I stick to premium in it.
I think it comes down to sticking to one or the other for a few tanks and deciding yourself if premium makes a difference that is worth the extra $7 a fill up. As far as the poor gas mileage I fill my tank sometimes two or three times a week and yea it's pricey, but I feel safer in my rovers than I do in any other vehicle I've owned so that's how I justify it. |

It's $4.41 cheapest here. |
I love how my mind has made life easier for me. Whenever I look at gas prices, I always look at the price of 87, never of premium. I've never used 87 in my life, not even when I'm borrowing someone's car. The difference is so negligible that I'd prefer the higher octane where I can get it. My S60R, motorcycle, and DII all prefer and need at least 91 to work the way they were designed. I mostly only run 93.
