Discovery II Bull Bar Installation Instructions - Post #1
5 Attachment(s)
I'm hoping this post will help some of you who want to install a brush guard or bull bar on your Discovery II.
I got these instructions from BP of Utah - they still have a few sets of bull bar mounting hardware kits for sale. I bought one with the goal of understanding how the bull bar is installed on my vehicle. The hardware mounting kit is selling for $70. I've been having a hard time finding a bull bar for my vehicle (new or used) so it appears that I'll be having one fabricated. I found a company here in Southern California who will custom fabricate it for me for around $300, powder coating will be around $120. If you want a bull bar on your car, let's collaborate on this project. I need some help interpreting the drawings since some of them aren't clear or they don't make sense to me. Each post will have max of 5 images, and there are 13 pictures, so we will have 3 posts for this. This is Post #1. THE IMAGES I ORGINALLY POSTED WERE SHRUNK BY THE FORUM SOFTWARE. AS AN ALTERNATIVE, I UPLOADED THEM TO IMGUR.COM HERE ARE THE LINKS: Slide 1 http://imgur.com/vLCwi Slide 2 http://imgur.com/A58Pr Slide 3 http://imgur.com/C37yf Slide 4 http://imgur.com/yO7NV Slide 5 http://imgur.com/TY5NX Slide 6 http://imgur.com/fCaGL Slide 7 http://imgur.com/gS0tO Slide 8 http://imgur.com/oCn1M Slide 9 http://imgur.com/JkhWP Slide 10 http://imgur.com/0Xbkw Slide 11 http://imgur.com/EbBU2 Slide 12 http://imgur.com/rmFQH Slide 13 http://imgur.com/ibiEV Slide 1 Attachment 12634 Slide 2 Attachment 12635 Slide 3 Attachment 12636 Slide 4 Attachment 12637 Slide 5 Attachment 12638 |

Hey aguison I am about to put my new refinished bullbar on. I will take pics and post the directions soon. I got a full bullbar for $125 with rusted bottom and surface rust. I managed to sand off the rust and por 15 everything. Just need to prime and repaint with bedliner. I also got the brushbar mounts from Atlantic for $44.

I'm not completely positive on how it works for the 99-02 DII's but on the 2003-04 you need to remove the bumper and cut two square sized holes in the black plastic so the bull bar can connect. You also need to attach mounting brackets to bolt onto the crush cans.

Yes I believe that is the correct term for it. The crush cans are bolted on to the front of the frame, they are silver colored and crush on impact. The mounting brackets attach to the crush cans and provide a sliding bracket to fit the brush guard on to. In the first picture you can see the mounting bracket inside of the bumper(somewhat U shaped) and you can also see a little bit of the crush can as well.
