Discovery II Search
Hi Friends,
First time long time - I am currently searching for an "adventure SUV" and partial to the Disco II's, so the search began. As with any of my previous car purchases, regardless of year I am happy with a good example of any of the years and how I came across this local 2002 Disco II with 90k miles. Second owner, works at the Land Rover dealership for the past 20 years and bought this car after the original owner traded it in. All the service the original owner had done was done at the current owners dealership, so he has extensive maintenance history. The current owner did the head gaskets, lifted it, new rear shocks, bumpers and ladder. It has a dent in the hood and scratch on the door and need rear brake pads- it's about all I have seen wrong with it. Lived in Texas it's entire life. My question is - $6,500 fair for this? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...fdf218ecaa.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...b187cc12f.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...208b99753.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...e4239eabf.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...8433e98bf.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...7df99e1be.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...21cb802407.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...0d5606608.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...c47abb8b3.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...7a6d6864aa.jpg |
Price is a bit high for my neck of the woods.
i would say $5k would be more appropriate |
... and the frame?
If the frame is in great condition, I would still say $65 too much. I might consider it for $4, but that dent in the hood would really turn me off. |
.... also, I would only get a D2 if it had the CDL transfer case. . I believe that would be 99, 2000, and early 01. Then again in 2004.

Yeah - the dent was bothering me as well. Not sure what that is going to cost to repair.
2002 did not have the transfer case unfortunately. It is the extensive maintenance history and 2 owner ship that was the main appeal. Especially for a first disco.... Or I can get this one for 10k :) https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/c...408379652.html |
That dent in the hood is a clue to why it's got a new front bumper if you ask me = Wrecked.... The hood is not even sitting properly on the LF side. Looks to me like it rear ended someone or it was in a front/rear accident hence the new bumpers front/rear.
It's on CL for 8500.00 ROFLMAO.... That D2 is a 3K-4K truck tops. For that price get an LR3! Heck I have a very nice 04 D2 S Model in Vienna Green with 106K that is mint condition inside, and a 9 out of 10 on the outside with just a flickering oil light at idle (project I'm working on) that I'd sell ya for $4500.00 and you "could" slap in a new motor (if needed) and you'd still have a better D2 then that one for 500.00 less. The number of owners = really doesn't mean a thing. I've had one owner turds, and 6 owner wonders. It just depends... All I can say is be EXTREMELY careful in the Houston, TX or SETX used car market. Hurricane Harvey claimed 1,500,000 to 1,800,000 vehicles, and those are just the reported ones! Plenty of used vehicles right now could have been flooded, or driven thru high water and then never serviced = ticking time bombs. That D2 isn't as bad as some I've seen online but the owner is smoking some Pacific NW swag if they think 8500.00 is a fair price. |
Hey all - thanks so much for all the feedback so far. He explained the dent as his wife ran into a parked trailer and dented the hood. Car fax shows it as a minor accicent with minimal / mi or damage. I think the truck is clean and being truthful, but that price is a bit high.
Re: the Vienna Green 04 - love to see it / pictures. I am in Austin. I’ll PM you my information. |
