Discovery II towing capacity and limits and brake controller

I have a 99 dicovery II that I have been towing motocross bikes with a total GVWM of about 2,000 lbs and am using a 4 pin flt connecter, and I need to upgrade to an enclosed trailer.

Big question is the one I want is 8'x14" and will be about 5500 lbs loaded, plus it has a 7 pin round connector. First question - I know the manual says 7000 lbs (I thing in Low gear) but can it handle the 5500 at highway speeds. Also, if so where can I get a brake controller, and do I already have the hook-ups for it? ( I had the tow receiver put on when I bought it new at the dealer - I assume that means I bought the tow package when I bough it new - but don't remember.)

Also do I have to re-wire the 4pin set up, or is there a jumper from 4 to 7 pin round connector.

You won't have any issues towing that load. I'd pick up the genuine towing electrics kit as it's the 7-round. The car isn't pre-wired for a controller but the kit has a spare leads for the controller etc. just mount the controller and run the signal wire back to the lead on the connector behind the passenger taillight. Any travel trailer store would have a controller and, of course, there's always amazon. Do some research and decide what type of controller you want-need as there's a little more to it than just picking up any random one.
