Do I have self-leveling suspension?

Hi. I have recently purchased a 2000 disco 2 with 75,000 km. Since I have air springs, I must have self-leveling suspension (SLS) but when I push the self-leveling button on my dash board nothing happens.

In addition, the right rear of the car sits lower than the rest of the car and I'm guessing it has something to do with the SLS or could it just be a bad shock absorber.

It might have been converted to springs which is why the button might not do anything. Just look in the wheel wells and if there are air bags instead of springs then you have SLS. if there are coil springs back there, then you don't.

If you have SLS (far as I know, all 7 seat discoveries have SLS) you will be able to tell by looking at the rear end of the car, does it have air bags instead of coil springs?

You should also look underneath the car, directly under the driver seat, mounted to the outside of the frame rail will be the compressor unit.

You should hear it run regularly? check the rave A number of the senior members on this site have links to it in their signatures), it explains exactly how it works and is a great resource. If you are going to run Discovery in Uganda, I believe you will want to study the documents in great detail.

If one side sits lower, it could be a number of things ranging from a sensor adjustment to a bad air bag, or a damaged and leaking air line.

Take a look at the back springs, if they look like the ones on the left, you do not have SLS, if they look like the one on the right (inflated, hopefully) then you do have SLS. If your back end is sagging, I recommend getting rid of the airbags, with this kit.

Hope this was of some help.

Thanks. I definitely have air springs and since I posted this thread, I have looked at the RAV Manual which attributes uneven leveling with the air supply unit air control valves. Either a short circuit or a valve open. But I don't recall ever hearing the air compressor unit in operation when opening the doors as the manual says it should. I'm liking the idea of springs ....and 2" at that.

Convert to springs and be done with it.
