Does the rear diff leak often?

Pulling behind the D2 on Saturday, I noted the bottom of the rear diff was wet. Inspected the rear differential and saw fluid leaking from pinion seal. Is this pretty common? Another leak to add to my problems as well as my ticking engine. Gotta love these trucks.

No it's not normal or common.

Not common.

How much leaking we talking here?

Check to make sure you're axle breathers are not clogged

This is absolutely critical advice.

I have a friend who has done axle seals 3 times before he realized that his breather was pinched off when the idiots at the dealership put the utility body on his pickup.

If it's clogged, it's not going to prevent you from having to replace the seal. But it will prevent you from having to KEEP replacing the seal.

Yep, check the vents. Diffs are one thing that seem to hold fluid on the Rover.

Engine ticking

Disco boy - didn't you take your rover to Livermore to get the ticking fixed?

Best,
Dave

What these guys said, clogged axle breather, check that first.
When I first got my truck the front seal on the rear diff leaked, replaced the axle breather and the leak stopped.
That was 4 years ago.
