Drain and Flush
 

Is there a way to "gracefully " drain and flush the coolant system. I'm getting rid of Dex in the next week or so but I hate to dump coolant all over the the floor and in buckets.
I have seen a flush kit at the parts store not sure what that does. I just am anxious to get rid of dexcool in the 04 and flush the system.

Big pan. Like from construction aisle. Be sure to reverse flush the heater core as well.

You mean take off the heater hoses and backflush?
If I dump a bunch in the driveway isn't that toxic to animals and stains pavement? Should I use a hose to flush the radiator and the block ? I have looked on forums and you tube and saw many ways to do it. If i just drain it it makes a mess but if I flush a bunch of gallons it will really make a mess. Should I dispose at parts store?

I try to contain them in the garage. I have 2 Now, one or the other gets to leak on the driveway at all times. Good point.

Why...then what's going to get rid of the stray cats?

They must have been around for the 99 Disco coolant dump when I did Head gaskets. Haven't seen any around lately.:eek:

Don't buy any of the flushes if you are thinking about cleaning out your radiator cause after 100,000 miles D2 radiators are partially plugged and won't clean out.
Go buy about 5 gallons of distilled water, no tap water flush it thru 2 times, install a new coolant pressure cap and a 180 degree soft spring t/stat and your new coolant and you will be set.

The mason tub is the way to go. I pulled the hoses and dumped the coolant into the tub. I also pulled the heater hoses at the metal pipes over the valve cover and back-flushed it with a garden hose. I used a length of heater hose to lead the inlet to a bucket to catch the discharge. The inlet hose is the one off the intake manifold. I was amazed at what came out of that thing. It made my heat actually work! I used the distilled water flush approach and caught everything I could in the tub, then used a shop vac to clean up everything else. Make sure you get a bunch in your hair and have some run down your arm on the inside of your shirt sleeve. If you're really good, you'll be able to get a couple of good splashes in your mouth also.
