Engine Swap Options
 

Are there any options for an 03 disco? Something like an lr3 or rover engine? I have some investigating to do before I decide a new engine is in order, but I wanted to know if there are options other than a disco 4.6 replacement. I'm assuming the new motor would need to be compliant with the d2 ecu.

4.0 or 4.6, long or short block, new or guaranteed used.
Nothing else will match up.

Unless you want to spend a lot of money the 4.6 is pretty much your best bet. It's basically the best Rover engine and swapping in any non Rover engine will usually cause a lot of problems.

I've seen quotes of 5-7k for short and long blocks, parts only. That seems really high. Is it?

Here you are for $3250 on a pretested, inspected and guaranteed complete used engine.

Well, I was talking new. But that looks like a reasonable option. Looks like they're out of stock right now.

It would sure be tough to pay $3250 for a used engine with only a 90 day warranty, but I suppose that could be the best option.

So you didn't read all they do with the engine before they decide to sell it, did you?
Their engines are opend up, top and bottom and gone thru before crating them. You can't be what they have to offer anywhere. Course there is the other issue, your 03 with a good engine is worth around $6500 to $7000 on the current market and it would not be wise to do a repait that excedes the total valve of the trucak as a new engine will.

Well, I did read their description (on my phone albeit, which is a little tough to do). But like I said, at the end of the day, the warranty is only for 90 days and after that, you're on your own. I'm not saying anyone else offers anything better for a used engine....it's just that my wallet gets nervous when I think about paying over $3k for an engine that could potentially be no better than mine was just a few weeks ago (i.e. before it started knocking).

Oh well, I still have some things I need to do to try and diagnose my problem before deciding what to do. I'm just trying to get educated on the options. Thanks to all of you for your input.

It is not your wallet but you left brain getting in the way.
You will never recoup the cost of a new engine if and when you sell that truck, so don't go burying your self.
