Default Water pump R&R

Ok, I did my '98 water pump about a year ago. So easy it was almost scary.

Now my '04 seems to be lightly leaking from the gasket(see pic, drivers side from underneath).

Is the '04 as easy as the '98? I have a spare gasket from when I did the '98,but should I just replace the pump anyways since it's gonna be off (84k miles)?

I feel silly asking such a newb question, but...

I've replaced water pumps on both the D1 and DII..as I recall they were both fairly easy to replace..removing the fan is the only problem if you do not have a removal tool

It looked as straight forward as my d1,just wasn't sure.

And after thinking about it, I think it would be foolish to do just the gasket when the pumps can be had well under $100.

I paid $100 for my D1 pump because I had to have it that day for a camping trip so I had to purchase it at a local parts store. The DII pump I ordered online for @ $50. FAP99.com I believe.

If you are going to get a new water pump i suggest you get the one with the machined brass impeller. The cheap ones with the stamped steel impellers are junk and don't last as long.

I was told to stay away from the ultra-cheap ones w/ plastic impeller. I used rovafarm for my '98, it was around $70. I know it had a metal impeller, but cant remember if it was a solid machined one or stamped.

yes; stay away from anything that has a plastic impeller.
Any good aftermarket waterpump should be fine, the stock water pump has a stamped impeller. Once in 40-years have i seen an impeller acually fall off.
I might suggest at 80k miles to go with a GMB 144-2001 Lifetime Guarantee Premium Water Pump it has a bronze impeller and neddle bearings (german made). But if your milage was much higher I would not, I can not tell you the amount of people I see putting lifetime parts in vehicles that have 150k mile. At 150k miles any part is most likely a lifetime guarantee barring wear items.
GMB 144-2001 Lifetime Guarantee Premium Water Pumps are a little over $100

Did you guys drain and flush the coolant before replacing the pump? I flushed the coolant not too long ago, so was hoping I could just simply drain and refill.

I want to make this as easy as possible for myself,

parts in queue to order are:

Land Rover Water Pump Fits Discovery, Range Rover & Defender Vehicles
Miscellaneous Land Rover Accessories & Parts | Wrench - Fan Clutch - Universal | Roverparts.com
Miscellaneous Land Rover Accessories & Parts | Wrench - Fan Clutch - 36MM | Roverparts.com

I am assuming those 2 fan clutch wrenches will save me some headache.

To turn the drive belt tensioner, can I use just a regular 15mm open ended wrench or does it have to be a "ring
spanner"?

Also I cannot seem to find a "serpetine" or "auxiliary drive" belt on AB, is this it perhaps?

Thanks for any help, I figured I was just piggy back ken's thread versus making a new one.
