Finally got a disco

RE: Finally got a disco
It is definitely a small world. My dads shop is a small building on 64th street south of the river, so we were probably on your route.
You are correct in assuming that my experience with Land Rover is limited, I knew the old ones were bomb proof, I just had no idea before a couple weeks ago they were still such awsome machines. The first modern one I ever looked at is the one in u wrench it, at least I can tell good stuff when I get hit over the head with it. Since then I've talked to a cousin of mine who did several years in south america with the peace corp, he informed me that land rovers are almost all they have down there. From what he told me they really beat the crap out of them, he loved the two he had while he was there.

We are out in the country, the machine shop is in a pretty non discript 40x40 pole building, so you could have been here and never known what it was.
I just figured out why I never caught your reference to the offset axle thing. It was bugging me that I had let a tip that big slip, so I went back to the other thread and took a look. I just had not gone back to that thread since you posted the comment on the T case and axle situation, I thought that thread had died so I quit checking it.

There is another option, if you are really set on having a diesel engine in a DII. The engine and transmission out of a W126 (1979 - 1990) Mercedes 300 SDL Turbo will work if you have machine shop access and you can make an adapter plate for the ZF 722.3 transmission to mate with the LR transfer case.
This is the same setup in the Mercedes G-wagon:

Thanks, I suspected that was the case after I discovered I'd missed your message. When I get into this project further I will probably have to bug you guys a lot more.
By the way if you come up needing any fab or machine work done drop me a line. Besides the machine shop, I have my service truck set up with a 300 amp welder that will run stick, high freak tig, and wire right out of the back of the truck.
