Fixed the cargo door latch today
I finally ordered and recieved the door latch springs from the guy in the UK. My cargo door would not open unless I turned the key to the left and pulled up on the handle at the same time. This got old if the the Disco was running and I needed in the back.
This is my experience replacing the broken spring in the latch.
I used a panel removal tool and 11 of the fastenrs still broke from being brittle. The panel is held on by 15 and I ordered them ahead of time from AB. I had repaired the windows in my wife's 95 BMW and from that repair job knew some would break.
Take a good look at the linkage before you remove anything and it won't be too bad reassembling. I removed the latch assembly from the door and replacing the spring was easy. The most difficult part was geting the latch assembly back into the door as it has to be moved around at a cetain angle to manuever into place. Be careful disconnecting the linkage as the plastic parts are brittle and will break easy. I only broke one, but I repaired it with a small tie wrap. It took me about 2 hours from start to finish and it is great being able to open the door from outside and inside without the key in the lock.
If you have any specific questions let me know.

Panel fasteners - http://cgi.ebay.com/Land-Rover-Disco...lenotsupported
This guy ships really fast. I ordered something from Ohio the same day and the springs and fasteners came first.

That job is a pain in the butt. I did both rear doors and the tailgate. I have the 2 left over for the fronts, but wasn't bored enough to do them yet.
The springs are for any D1. They make the lock mechanism spring into position. If you have a door the looks like it unlocks, but doesn't, and you have to hold the lock up to get it to unlock ( or use the stinking key every time you want to get in the back door).... these will fix it.
