Four Amigos?????

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an 03 Discovery and was hoping for some insight regarding an issue I've been having. I had been getting ABS, TC and Brake lights intermittently. Today I have ABS, TC, Brake and HDC and they will not clear. I couldn't find any similar threads at all, only three amigos problems.

Is there any chance it could just be a bad brake fluid level sensor? When the ABS, TC and Brake lights would come on the common denominator seemed to be the car jostling / rough road. They would come on both with and without the brakes applied.

Thanks for your help.

Low brake fluid would cause the Brake light to flicker as the sensor in the brake fluid reservoir bounces around, but I'm pretty sure it won't have much to do with the three amigos.

Thanks,

The fluid was at the correct level, that's why I was hoping it was just a bad level sensor. Took it to the dealer and the culprit was a bad ABS sensor and a bad ABS relay. Don't know if the relay was causing the fourth light or not or if the 03-04s just get the extra amigo.

They also replaced the SLABS module with a new one, said it was an old version and the new one would be less prone to throwing codes. Is this common?

The only 2 things that will trip the 4th light would be the switch in the master cylinder indicating low fluid or the e-brake switch is not indicating that the e-brake has not been totally released.

Thanks Mike, that's what I was thinking. The're all off for now so we'll see what happens.

Have you heard anything about the updated SLABS? I forget what the build date was but it was early 03 and I assume the one in it was the original.

I know that if you try and add it, it is quite expensive.
Are your brakes squeaking?

Nope, no squealing at all. Stock pads and rotors. Yeah, the unit was around $700... that hurt, a lot.

Hind-sight is 20-20 but after the fact I couldn't find anything on here about anyone having this done or a updated SLABS being a solution to the amigos which caused me to wonder if this was either necessary or beneficial. There wasn't anything technically wrong with the old unit, just an old version according to them.
