Default Good battery slow cranking before start

The battery checked out good but when I turn the key to start, no cranking for 1 to 2 seconds than slow cranking like a near dead battery for a second or two than the starter takes off and it starts normal. All the, lights are bright and no dimming like a low battery. It has not failed to start... yet

Clean your ground cable terminal, where it connects to alternator bracket (known fail area). And all battery terminals. If it still persist, starter would be next suspect.

This could be a failing starter. Does the starter sounds healthy?

Also, get under and take a look at the XYZ/Nuetral Safety Switch. If the front lower rivet tops are popped off, this can cause intermittent no start, and is rebuildable.

Closer inspection I think it's the starter. The solenoid clicks then gives off an electrical scorch smell that I had not noticed before. Thanks for the feedback.

On Best4x4’s recommendation I put in a Partsplayer from Amazon. Less than a 100 bucks, made may old starter sound like a sick constipated elderly cow, and has worked in -10f weather without a hesitation. Really happy with it.

To remove you’ll want standard metric hex sockets. I don’t remember the exact size.
