Is this a "good" front driveshaft?

I'm not sure if the existing driveshaft should be replaced or not. I did find a grease port (I think) in the forward coupling. See first photo.

The vehicle came with a spare front driveshaft, which has two forward grease ports.

Is the existing one good?

That is probably the original I would suggest rebuilding it if you want to use it as a spare

If the one on the truck has only two grease fittings at the front end, and no grease fittings on the double joint near the transfer case, then it's probably original and will have to be replaced at some point. As you may have read in numerous threads, it's a time bomb.

That actually describes the spare one I have in my garage. Would it be a waste of time putting a refurbished "time bomb" on to replace essentially the same thing? I appreciate the responses...

I would rebuild the one that is in your garage, replacing all three u-joints with quality joints that have a grease zerk and then install that one on your vehicle. The one pulled off the vehicle can then be rebuilt at your leisure for a spare or sell it.

If you are going to go through the trouble of rebuilding, definitely use quality parts and a very reputable drivetrain shop.

For Hardy Spicer w/ grease zerks
