H2 Hood Vent modification for D2!!

hey guys...

i was reading another thread about under-hood engine temps and how high they were...i was thinking that a vent would be sweet....but i didnt want a cheapo carpet vent or a stamped aluminum vent they required rivits to install...

i started to look at ebay and google for ideas and i came a across a H1 hummer hood that incorporated a vent...i got to thinking that this is what i'd like...so i did more research and i found a H2 hood vent from a wreaked hummer.....i got it on ebay for a amazing $2.25 plus shipping...

of corse its non functional but all i would need is a cutting wheel and 2 mins and all the vents would become functional.... heres some pics i PHOTOSHOPED of what it would look like....let me know what you think of it and why!!!!

Not a bad idea... my question is.. What is that thing made of? I know hummers have alot of plastic, and If that is plastic i'd be afraid of it melting. After all, you can basically cook a steak on the hood of the disco in the summer time after driving for a while.

heres another with the handle area filled in with black aluminum wire meshAttachment 47320

its made from high impact black plastic....like the airbox material...but i'd say its twice the thickness of the air box....i'm not worried about it melting...i mean...a H2 in desert heat witha 6.0 gas engine must be hot also....thiers doesnt melt....i think i'll be okay..

If you could do a little better photoshopping it might look better.

The first picture the vent is big the second its small. I also dont like that its a fake vent. I know you will cut holes..

I dont think rivets are a bad idea.

i dont want a cheap looking vent.... that kinda stuff belongs on jeeps.....

i think i like this....do you guys think i should fill in the handle are with wire mesh and open it up for even more air flow

Im likeing the look with the mesh but i think it would look better with a hood blackout kit. Just my 2 cents

Camdisco24 Jun 8, 2010 09:13 PM

def having something like mesh to keep stuff out.
Have you ever looked at putting on a side vent?

Here's one:

(Ignore the wheels)

well....

i donr know what a blackout with the vent would look like...

i dont think i want a side vent..

well, I like the concept of a hood vent.
I think it would look fine without a blackout. With a blackout i'd be afraid of the blacks being two different tones, and if you're like me that would bug you to death.
Its certainly worth experimenting with... (not the cutting the hole part thought) ;)
