Disco II towed while in park

Default Disco II towed while in park

Have a 2003 Disco II that has been sitting for about 4 years. Well, finally ready to put a new engine in it so I pulled it up to the driveway to clean it before send to The Shop.

When I tried to shift out of park, it would not shift. I asked my wife if she put it in neutral before I pulled it and she said no.

How did it roll???? Did I just tear something else up???

Do you have the drive shafts on or off?

How far did you tow the truck in Park?

No good trying to blame the wife.............you know that won't work as they will never admit and will say "you never told me to put it in neutral"

Drive Shafts on or off???? I didn't get under the truck and disconnect them if that is what your asking.

towed it about 100 yards.

Yeah that's what I'm asking. I thought maybe you had removed the front or rear drives 4 years ago and that is why it was able to roll in park. Just to be clear it did roll right? You didn't hook it up to a dually and just drag the truck I hope.

Not a dually, but a Kubota tractor. Not lawn tractor but a real tractor. I am pretty sure it rolled. No drag marks on the grass or gravel driveway.

A Kubota!! I thought a dually was worse case scenario. With that tractor, the truck could have been in park, with the parking brake on, and tied to a tree and you probably still wouldn't have felt resistance.

All joking aside. You could have easily destroyed the transmission or T-Case doing that and never even felt it. It could have dragged for a few yards until it finally snapped and rolled the rest of the way. I would ask your wife if she heard a big pop or any weird noise while you were pulling it.

I guess next question is how do I determine the transmission is ok without taking it apart before I spend $8K on a new Cannible V8.
