Harmonic Balancer

I was told over the weekend that I needed a new Harmonic Balancer. The front seal is leaking oil due to a groove in tha balancer. Of course there goes another $350 or so. Is there any type of sleeve you can use instead of buy a new balancer or is it better of getting a new one. Any input would help.

RE: Harmonic Balancer

The front seals do go out but the only timeI have seen it going out
due to a harmonic balancer, is vibration with the HBbeing loose.

If you did not see this yourself, look to be sure.
HB are not something that gets changed " unless it has a rubber
core some new GM's" they just don't go bad.

If it is in need of replacement you have found it will not be cheap.

On my Disco I the HBwould cut the front cover.
The Disco I HB looks to be all steel.

Sorry I was not more help.

You are correct about them not going out often. Everyone I talk to say it is a rare occurence. Unfortunatley I think the car is snake bit. Everything that is rare appears to have gone wrong so far. Thanks for the input though.

FYI some applications do have a repair sleeve for the groove you speak of. It comes with the new seal for the front cover.
