Have you siphoned gas from your D2?
With this Tropical Storm passing by I'm getting back into storm season mode. Obviously an ideal storage space for 20+ gallons of gas is in the D2's tank. Is there an anti siphon valve? If not, any idea the approx length of the hose needed to get to the bottom of the tank from the fill hole?

Why would you be siphoning gas from a 4WD wading capable vehicle during or after a storm? Keep tank full. Even after Andrew there was power and fuel, just had to drive out of the direct hit area. I had no power on Biscayne Blvd in Miami, but got hotel rooms for team members to sleep and shower in at Ft Lauderdale. We ran on generator (LP) for a week at our computer center.
Even with the low mpg of a Rover you should be able to drive far enough on one tank to get to fuel and power.

That said, Savannah is right, you should have enough fuel on hand well before the storm lands to keep your generators running. If anything, pick up a few 5 gallon race fuel jugs, they're the easiest to store out of all available options.

Well Buzz, I have a 2011 diesel X5 that works great (and gets 23 mpg in the city), I'd definitely put the family in that if I had to hit the road after a storm. And yes, I'm talking about my gas generator that keeps the lights on and my family and our food cool during a power outage. Why drive out of the area to get gas when I could borrow some from the truck? Obviously this is worse case for extended outages as I have 15 gallons in cans, just piece of mind knowing I could easily get at it if need be. I'll give it a try later on today.
