Headgasket Job on D2
Just announcing that all projects are going to a back burner while.....
I'm either having this job done or going to try and do it with my mechanic. I will have the heads done. I bought the AB set w/bolts. I have all new wires and plugs. Time and money are an issue. |
put a weekend or a couple of day aside to complete it, it is a good amount of work and I would not trust it to a machanic that is doing it to make money. There are to many short cuts that can come back to bit you in the ass, i would make time to do it myself.

Its not the hardest thing you've ever done in your life. Just take your time on it and double or triple check you steps to make sure you do it right. Keep you surgery table clean and be prepared to say some foul words as you crack your knuckles. Don't rush yourself on this job, and you will be full of satisfaction when its complete & you tell your wife to turn that key. Also keep in mind your going to drip some oil on the manifolds during this process and it will smoke as it starts to warm back up.

i'm thinking to call the mechanic when I need him whether that's the first bolt or putting on the gaskets. he's a friend of sorts and I can slip him a few bucks and get his help on call pretty much.

Make sure to follow the re-torquing guidelines methodically and you'll be fine. Good luck. Come back w/ questions.

No time - you must be making money.
Then pay out $2,500 USD. If you have a cheap mechanic, then perhaps it is OK to have them do it. Most people on here don't like to just toss $2,000 to a mechanic. Sometimes you can buy a whole rover for $3000 |
