So I got the heads off and the gaskets look okay. heavy coolant in the rear pistons. Everything came off almost too easy, the manifold and head bolts were not on that tight. I take the heads to the machine shop tomorrow to have them check them. I wonder if my leak was due to the head bolts not being tight enough...

dear lord... how long did that take to accumulate?

ajmille Dec 11, 2011 05:21 PM

if you are not in a rush to put the heads back on, port and polish them.

Just out of curiosity what brand and weight of motor oil do you use?

Haha I was going to ask the same thing... A better question might be how often he changes it!

How often do you change it? M1, after two normal drain intervals should make that engine look like gold, not all the black staining you have. You should be using M1 0W-40 (http://www.mobiloil.com/usa-english/....aspx?option=2) by the way or the other popular engine oils suggested here.

Port and polishing is a performance enhancement in improving the performance of the cylinder heads, very popular as an aftermarket modification in high performance cars. It is not required to do if you are happy with the way your car's engine performs in terms of it's power delivery.

Your engine looks like it has 200,000 miles on it.
Anything w-30 is to thin for these engines, thats why you have so much sludge and varnish.
The oil cannot withstand the heat and is breaking down.
How often do you change it?

I change the oil ever 3k.

aarongregor Dec 11, 2011 08:44 PM

So I should run 10w 40 as stated above from Solberg?
