The kit doesn't come with the correct adapter. The Mityvac guide (http://mityvac.com/catalog/Adapter_Selection_Guide.pdf) says a MVA107 adapter works for a DII. Looking at the photos is will not work.(It seals the tank at the top of the filler neck, not at the bottom and air will escape via the overflow tube). Using their cross reference (Mityvac) it says the BMW 345 crosses to a MVA113. I think MVA113 is the correct adapter.

I tested mint to 16 psi. The tank cap vents at 15 PSI.

Am I missing something? The entire MiteyVac pump and kit with a set of adapters is $45. When I look up just the MVA113 adapter, O'Reilly wants $45 for just that part. I'll look online for a cheaper adapter, but when the adapter is the same price as the entire pump kit? Man they want money for these little plastic parts.

Looks like the MiteyVac kit that comes with the MVA113 is the European Kit MVA4620. I'm not seeing one easily found for cheap.

Good to know. Since I already had the MiteyVac kit for $45, I was hoping to find just an adapter. I've already contacted Amazon and am returning the MiteyVac kit and will just get the Harbor Freight one if it has the adapter for the D2. Thanks!

 

So what did you figure out with your leak? Did you get it fixed?

 

I finally got to it last weekend. I used the coolant dye as suggested (FJC Extended Life Radiator Coolant Dye). Half a 1-oz. bottle was more than enough to show me what I needed. The leak was, indeed, coming from the vicinity of the water pump - I just hadn't been able to see it previously with the weird angles and the road grime. Not sure if it was actually the water-pump or just the gasket, but I replaced them and all seems well.

I'd recommend that particular dye for anyone using the orange coolant. 1/2 a bottle was more than enough, and the leaking coolant appeared fluorescent green without the need for a UV or different color light.

Now it's on to replacing the windshield I cracked when the shifter handle I was removing finally let go!

 

So, shortly after I thought I had fixed this leak by replacing the water pump, I noticed the same slow leak occurring under the truck. Finally diagnosed it as a failed timing cover gasket. Replaced the gasket (with the help of several old threads on the subject - THANKS) and installed a new timing chain, and she's now running like new with no coolant leaks! Too bad a friend is driving it now, so I probably won't get it back until the next thing goes wrong.

 

I hope you went ahead and did the oil pump while you were in there. I skipped that step the first time I had my front cover off and ended up with the worst oil pump blow out I have seen.

I've owned a Mityvac for about 15 years, and used it for innumerable jobs. Easiest way to go if you already own the pump is to spend a couple of bucks buying a spare cap (or grab one from the junkyard) and dripp/tap it to accept a pressure fitting on the top. Add some JB weld for durability, and you're set. Also works for creating a pressure bleed setup for brakes.
