Help Please
Hi guys,
How is the thermostat hooked up to the radiator/pump hoses? Does the straight part on top go to the water pump? Rave appears to have it that way. Just checking. I replaced my thermostat for a 180 degree one, and I am actually running warmer after the install. Everything has been bled properly. Thanks for the help. |
Looking at rave, the angled connection on top of the tstat seems to go to the water pumpand the straight hose connection goes to the upper radiator hose. But checking the diagram on rovers north website (Land Rover Discovery II Cooling & Heating Parts Available from RoversNorth.com) it appears to be the opposite. Any clarification is much appreciated as I do not want to fry my truck. Thanks.

Bottom port goes to lower radiator hose.
Top long port goes to the upper hose that runs into the T. Top side port goes to curved hose that goes towards the bottom. Hope this makes sense. |
How do you know you're running warmer? What are your temps?

Also, while bleeding the cooling system I noticed my temps climb entirely too fast. Where I used to have to idle the truck for 10 mins or so to get it to temp before replacing the reservoir cap, I hit 188 in about half that time. And the idle temp will keep climbing to around 200.

I would replace the t body heater plate instead of the bypass. I had a very small leak coming form there my temps were climbing a little higher and higher then bought the Atlantic British replacement put it on and my temps then stabilized. Pretty crazy what a little leak will do.

Thanks for the help. I bypassed it two years ago while doing the head gaskets. Been stable for that long. The only thing that's changed is this stupid tstat. I need to get the truck drivable. Cant get the heater plate hoses that quickly.

Well, I replaced the bypass hose. Topped off the coolant and started the bleeding procedure. The temp hit 200 so I shut it down. Swapped out the 180 tstat for oem. After bleeding the system I drove around a bit. Temps didn't get over 195, as usual. I guess the seller Sent me a defective tstat.
