HID vs. LED Lighting

I want to upgrade my headlight and fog light bulbs. I have previously done HID upgrades on other vehicles and recently noticed they are now making LED headlamp replacement bulbs. Have any of you used the LED bulbs and if so how do they compare to HID's in brightness and color?

I know the LED's last like a million hours..

I have been using different HID's for years on my D2, if you want to talk about your options, PM me your number and I'll call you.

Led lts are mostly for signal lts and on the d2 are not really a practical upgrade. Hid lts are for your headlights. on the 03-04 they are a great upgrade. I have them on my 03 and they are great! I can't really say on the 99-02. Of course they are illegal but I suppose everyone already knows that. I always thougt it would be really cool to install hid lts on the reverse lts of an 03-04 disco. but I don't know if that is possible.

They make led bulbs but are not recommended because they don't have a high and low setting. Like stated above you can use them for any other light inside or outside the truck.

HID and LED both would be illegal headlights on a DII.

HID Projector How-To on a 03-04 Discovery-lots of pictures - Land Rover Forums : Land Rover and Range Rover Forum

You need a legal housing, like this post above.
Get 03-04 headlamp housings, then get street legal HID housings (known as projectors) and you will be happy.
FYI you can put HIDs in your stock 99-02 headlamp housings, but its not meant for this, light pattern is not safe for oncoming drivers, may cause others to get pissed at you. So just don't do it.

That is why I bright the oncoming jack ass' who have the illegal HID kits and blind the hell out of me.
They cant bright me back because they done have a high beam.

i wrote that write-up and I DO have hi-beams

Disco Mike May 20, 2012 07:27 PM

So which of the 3 different systems do you have that gives you Hi beam, 1 hid and a separate light, 1 hid with a solenoid to reposition the light for hi or the dual 35 watt HID giving you 79 watts a side when on Hi.

Still won't be legal in any Land Rover with rectangular headlamp housings.

If you want to do them that's up to you, but quit telling people they are legal, because they aren't.
