Holy smokes...!!! 1171 & 1174

So I need an inspection and I can't pass w my check engine light on. Codes 1171 & 1174 are coming up. After doing some searching I now know about all the potential causes of tripping these two codes. Oye. So My father's friend has a smoke machine and we tested it to find where it's leaking and WOW. This thing is leaking from all sorts of areas...!!! I'm getting ready to dive in and remove the upper intake to get to the injectors as alot of smoke was coming from underneath. I figured I'd post up now this way if anyone has been there done that & could throw an important tip or two my way I'd appreciate it.

I have those too. My 2004 D2 has 114k on the current O2 sensors. I cant seem to locate the thread on doing the cigar test so I'm interested in how you make out. My UG show the faults and if I clear them they go away. If I just shut the alarm off they convert to Faults and set off the check engine light

My problem is w the Service Engine light on I can't pass a NYS Inspection. I really hope this fixes it.

Down to injectors out. Picking up new o-rings from the dealer first thing tomorrow.

O rings were my problem. Not too bad if a job, but it takes a few hours. It could also be the plenum gasket. You can reuse the same one when you put it back together, but a coat if RTV is a good idea on either side. Also check for breaks in your vacuum lines and make sure your intake is on the throttle body and the MAF tight. Also, if you've got an exhaust leak, that can cause the codes. I had that problem at one point also. Just some ideas to check out.

I was just in here about 3 months ago doing a leaky front cover gasket and timing chain. Wish I'd of known then. The smoke test showed all kinds of leaks. Even the throttle shaft. I'll knock them out one by one. Where was your exhaust leak Alex...??

That's always the real issue with LR "I hope what I'm doing fixes it". As said, I get them, clear them via my UG and maybe it happens again, maybe it doesn't.

The gasket between the manifold and the y-pipe had blown out the side and was leaking there.

If I clear the codes it takes some driving to get the monitors ready to pass inspection. The codes come back before the monitors are ready so it's a fail. It has to be fixed.

So the dealer by me is only showing upper o-rings for the injectors...? I'm not near the truck right now... Would anyone happen to know if the upper and lowers are the same..?? Thanks.

Alex_M 01-06-2016 09:23 AM

Yep, they're the same rings. Also, not sure what the dealer price is, but you can run down to the local auto parts place and get o-rings for an 03 Ford F150 with the 5.4l engine. They used the same injector style and I've got those rings in my truck now.
