Hood insulation

The insulation on the underside of my hood is pretty ripped/tattered on the pass side near the firewall. Any reason not to totally remove the insulation? I don't care about engine noise...the things too quiet anyway.

It's my understanding the hood insulation has these functions.....1. keep the noise down, 2. keep the hood from getting too hot from engine heat ..to touch ( on a warm day). On the other hand , it also provides excellent fodder for the occassional mouse nest. The jury will be out on this one for a long time. It's your truck and either way should be ok . I will warn you of one issue , from personal experience,.....I replaced mine a while back and the cost of the insulation was less than $100. The SHIPPING however was $125.00!!!!! the insulation with the box it comes in weighs about 12 #s but it's "oversize" .

If you remove it, you will kill the paint on the hood. The clear coat is already not too good.

Hood Insulation

I have a 97 DI 110k miles on it. My Hood Insulation has gotten torn from the hood prop bar. I was considering snatching it out. Was wondering about replacing with some of that aluminum foil cover insulation board.

Think I will just leave it out and do the hood blackout as well.
