Hood on my D2 was vandalized. How to fix?

Guys,
Noticed someone had taken a hammer or some sort of tool to my hood.

Looked like it may have been a two pronged tool where as they wanted to punch a hole in the hood.

But, hard to tell.

Not the worst damage. But, I had a flawless Land Rover D2 pretty much.
Before this happened. :D

Disheartening.

Attached pictures. All the spots are just the usual Colorado dirt from wind, soil blowing in the wind and rain here and there.

Yeah, maybe I am just whining. But....

Probably happened in Boulder on a weekend night. But, who knows.
Insurance will not cover it so I am stuck to fix it myself.

Well, you don't need a new hood. Any good body shop will be able to fix that for you and you will never be able to tell. Should only cost a few hundred dollars.

Would this be covered by one of those swanky hood black out decals they guys with 16 Hellas lights use?

Spike555 06-16-2012 12:34 PM

Why wont insurance cover it?

Hi Spike,
I don't usually pay theft and comprehensive and collision on older vehicles I own.
And that is why I can't get it fixed.
They will only give me probably $1000 for it if I total it.
So, I guess I'll keep $400 every 6 months - which is $800 a year out of their pockets and into mine.

I guess if someone took a hammer to the whole truck and broke all the windows - they would declare it totaled and so would I.

Air scoops (fake)? Chrome widgets? Hood mounted tach or instruments? Hold down for something? Big stainless bolts (that do nothing)? Wind up key? Hood vents?

Spike555 06-16-2012 09:22 PM

Only a grand for it?
Mine will give me $4500 for mine.
I always carry full coverage with glass coverage for cars I cannot afford to replace, but thats just me.
Now is the perfect excuse to buy a hood black out kit.

Paintless dent removal....and some touch up pens from Atlantic British? Down here in Texas we get a few hail storms a year and these guys have shops all over the place. Old guys used to tell me to wait for a hot summer day and then place some dry ice on the dent and it would pop out. Never tried it so don't know if it works or not.

Yes, and this would be a super cheap fix...

a little body filler in the dents and put a 3M black out sticker on the hood...problems solved.

looks like Beau or Luke Duke slid across your hood...
