How do you know when your front drive shaft has gone out on a DISCO 2
 

How do you know when your front drive shaft is going out or has gone out on a 2000 Disco II?

you dont want to hear it about to go and you def dont want it gone.

on its way it could clunk on rotation, sqeak on roatation, click on rotation. no matter what don't wait just get it rebuilt or replaced. if it goes out it will destroy your transmission and transfer case on its way out.

If you are lucky you will get a rattle sound and or a shaking of the wheel. If it has already gone out you would be sad and broke.

This might sound like a dumb question, but how would I know if my front driveshafts have been replaced already? When I bought my Disco, I got absolutely no information about it. It appears to be maintained by the dealership because of the stickers on the front window. Is there any way of me being able to tell if my front driveshafts have been replaced? Thanks in advance!

Check for grease points on your U-Joints up front...if you can't find any, it hasn't been upgraded. If it was serviced only at the dealer, and they replaced it, they would just put a factory one back in...which would only delay the inevitable failure.

And based on previous accounts, you don't want to know what it feels or sounds like to have your DS fail while driving.

it makes this awful sound, its the sound of your savings and checking accounts emptying all over the highway.
