How to tell if Disco 1 had keyless entry - FOB??

How can I tell if my 98 Disco has (or came with) keyless entry? I did not receive a fob when I purchased it ...used of course.Parts guy and Service guy looked up VIN but couldn't tell me ifit did or didn't come with a keyless entry option, or even whatFOB I would need. Both said judging by their information, not all came with the keyless feature. Their recomendation was to bring it in and for $120 they could hook it up to the computer and tell me.

Any advice how I can determine this? Is there a module I can look for? And if I determine I have it, how do I know what FOB to buy (off ebay or whereever)? And, can I reprogram it myself?

Thanks,

ALL Disco's came with keyless entry, your dealer is trying to screw you.
DI's only came with one type of remote. Two button remote. You can get one off of e-bay.
Yes you can program it yourself. No I dont know how. Check your owners manual, I believe that how to program it is in there.

One of the sponsors of the Forum is Keyless Remotes.com or something like that. It popped up while I was viewing this thread. There is a sponsors link on the banner at the top of the page. Or, here's another link:

Actually, the 94-95 model year had a single button fob that the owner could program themselves. The 96 and later model use a 2-button remote that requires the dealer's computer to program it and the truck to work together. You can buy the remotes on ebay but they are used and there is no guarantee they can be programmed to work with your truck. If it is important to have the remote fob, bite the bullet and pay the $120 to the dealer or Atlantic British and have it programmed. Saves time and money to get a new one the first time and know it will work.
