I made a Custom front bumper
 

So I made a drawing of this bumper 2 months ago and finally decided to fallow through. I Spent a total of 20 hours worth of cutting measuring and fitting as well as welding and painting. I don't have many pic as it hard to do hard work and take pics. Also spent $175 in the bottom half while the brush guard cost me about $70, $30 in tubing and $40 for the bends @ $10 each. I used galvanized diamond plate for the top and regular for the front and sides. The skid-plate is also diamond plate but a ticker gauge. I'm planing on adding a warn 12,000 winch that is going to be in the back of it and also heavy duty tow hooks. Please tell me what you think, this is my first bumper I've made so I hope you like it.

Very nice! Love the brush bar you made. Very rover-looking.

That looks really nice. Will you be able to add a front winch or are not headed that route? I like your brush guard. What was your final weight? Big D rings welded on the front would look really cool. Those are some tight tolances up to your lights. Have a look at my rear bumper build

it looks nice one small suggestion, the louver in front of the lights it would be nice if they were removable like the stock ones. That way if you ever have to change a lens you dont have to drop the bumper.

Some questions that leap to mind...

• How much does this weigh?
  
• Wouldn't it have been easier (and more importantly, stronger) to use a break and just bend it out of a lot fewer individual pieces of plate steel?
  
• What about front recovery points? (Edit: Sorry, just saw the part about the winch and tow hooks (hopefully you don't literally mean hooks as there are a number of far safer alternatives out there).)
  
• You've done a nice job on the brush guard, but as someone else mentioned, how do you remove the headlight without dropping the whole bumper?

Don't get me wrong, I have to give you credit for piecing this together...I doubt that I could have done it myself, so please take the above questions as food for thought and their implied answers as constructive criticism...

The back bumper looks great, I'm doing one also. I'm installing a winch and some d-rings. I did wanted it very close to the grill and lights, the material I used is DOM which is a very strong tubing used for cages. I did a test to compare it to Land Rover's brush guard and its much stronger so hopefully it works out. Thanks man.

I made it using a Lincoln 140hd 110v welder, A chop saw, a table saw and other hand tools. Many places can rent welders by the day and are fairly cheap, when the time comes and you are ready, you can call me and I can give you pointers. It was not hard but it requires patince measuring and cutting and coming home at 1am with metal shaving all over!! hahaha

I read this, looked at my bumper and went S@$t!!! I didn't think of it. Something so simple, the good thing is I made it very simple for removal and I have a hoist in the garage so I would have to unbolt it in that case. I could cut the bars and weld brackets but we will see. Thanks for pointing this out. If I ever make a second bumper, I will have more engineering info for the next one.
