Ignition Key assembly

What do you call that? Where you insert the key to start the car. I want to replace mine and need instructions from you guys or RAVE but no find. My truck starts but I need to find the sweet spot to start it every time. Now its been taking a long time to get the right spot. Its been hot here and sweating a lot just to start the car. Thanks

Ignition switch. Replacement is a real PITA to do as they use shear off bolts.

PS: Don't forget to disconnect your battery ground first but make sure you have your radio code beforehand.

1- I have an ignition switch and matching key door handle with 2 keys if you want to buy one, PM me.

2- to remove the sheer bolts that France refers to, use a 6-8" long chisel and tap a notch into bolt, than tap chisel into notch in counter clockwise fashion.

If you don't want to deal with a hammer and chisel (or dremel) in the tight confines under your dash, I wonder if you could JB Weld a penny onto the rounded end of each of the two shear bolts to allow you to loosen them?

Maybe use painters tape around the base of each bolt to insure that you don't JB Weld the shears to the base while doing the above?

Anyway, just a crazy thought. Disregard.

I would like to tackle this soon. Thank you guys for all the procedure and the link. At this point I still have no idea where the hard part is until i start opening it up. Seems like PITA like what France said and with the chisel and hammer, sounds like fun.

BTW, I just found this again. i got this long time ago with BCU and ECU and i hope this will fit.

^That will work.

The jbweld trick will not. The shear bolts are torqued down until the hex head breaks off.

But... You should probably change out the door lock pin before install. just sayin'
