Installed motorad 439-180
And I'm so happy!
Hasn't gone past 198* idling or driving. I was getting up to 220 when ever i idled even in low 50's. I still need to get a little air out of my system. Slight waterfall only if truck has been sitting (idle or not) |
Ya with the motorad thermo I haven't seen anything over 200 yet. Sure does give a good peace of mind!

I haven't had an opportunity to install my Motorad but looking forward to it.
In the meantime, been thinking - with the truck running cooler operating temps are there any consequences to be concerned about? Fuel economy, catalytic emission performance, Secondary air injection system, ...? Obviously the engineers designed these engines to run warm. Thoughts. |
not that warm.....

Think about it. That's damn near 200* if you think for some reason the engine was designed to run at 220* as if that's the magical point where it reaches 100% effeciency and you'll get 40mpgs your wrong. Only thing I see that can really happen is from running an engine cold is catalytic converter damage? But news flash 198* ain't cold |
You pretty much hit the nail on the head.
The now 52 year old Buick wasn't a bad engine till Rover tried to make improvements and that is when it all went to hell. |
204 seems to be the peak in stop and go traffic
|
The 3.9 engine in Rovers just a few models back was designed with a thermostat that was fully open at 82C. This running hotter nonsense is all about trying to put lipstick on a pig and make a 60's Buick engine have emissions to make Al Gore happy.
