Intake gasket - question about other gaskets
I was on british atlantic and found an intake/valve cover gasket kit that included a coolant elbow gasket and like 4-5 other gaskets. I have a leaking valve cover gasket for sure but my question is do I need all these other gaskets? I know i'll need the intake gasket too but not sure i need these other 4-5 gaskets??
The complete kit for intake, valve cover, elbow, etc is $119. I can get valve cover gaskets and bolts for $29.95 and the intake for $39.95. So the price difference is quite a bit. I dont want to order all these other gaskets if I dont need them?? |
I assume you are talking about the upper intake gasket, right? Buy it from rovahfarm or British pacific. It's less than $10.

Better yet try tightening the v/c bolts with an 8mm 12 point socket, they tend to vibrate loose.

You should be able to find the VC gasket by itself on ebay quite cheaply. However if you end up buying a set of gaskets just hang on to the extra ones for a rainy day. But to do the actual job itself does not require anything but the VC gasket. You can replace the upper plenum gasket if you want but many have reused it with no problems.

All you will need are the v/c gaskets, 8 new bolts and a little blue Lock Tite.
You might want to consider replacing your plug wires at the same time if the are the original grey wires, going to an 8 mm silicone wire. |
rovahfarm has the v/c gaskets for 6.99 each and the upper intake gasket for $9.65. For less than $10 I'd replace the upper intake gasket just to have piece of mind. It is a metal gasket, and many people reuse them, but I think the deciding factor in reusing it, sometimes, is the $40 that land rover wants for it.
